TextEN | Hakusa was a Japanese survey vessel of 3.810 tons, captured by the Japanese at Tsuinan (Cuinan) from the Chinese Government. She was originally the cargo DRUZHBA launched in 1914 for Svorono & di Pollone and built by W. Gray. Sold in 1920 to the Anglo-Grecian SS and renamed KODRUS. Sold in 1926 to Sutton Shipping Co. and renamed ULLESMERE. Sold to the Chinese Government in 1931 and renamed CHI FU HSING. After being captured in 1937 by Japan, she was rebuilt by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a hydrographic survey vessel for the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was in service until 1945, when off Cape Camau, southern Indochina. she was torpedoed by US submarine USS COBIA (SS-245 LtCdr Albert L. Becker). (145)(146) | |
