| TextEN | Uruguay was built 1910 in Germany. In 1939 she was the sole possibility to defend Uruguays independence against the German raider Graf Spee in Montevideo - as well as against the Bristish cruisers Ajax and Achilles. Uruguay was built as a Torpedo Gunboat by Vulcan in Germany. Uruguay used her as a cruiser and training boat. 1919 she did a journey to Mexiko and Venezuela. 1932 she particiapted at the independence party of Argentina. Argentinian occupation of the cruiser lead to political problems between Uruguay and Argentinia. Uruguay served till about 1951 Length 85m, 1400ts, 5700 HP, 23 kn, 2 x 12 cm Skoda guns, 4 x 7,62 cm Armstrong guns, 6 x 3,7 cm Revolver guns, 2 x 45,7 cm Torpedos. | |
